Personally, I think the club should make a retro-gesture for one match.

1980 average prices to watch your team.

£2.50 in 1980 converts to £11.64 in today's money.

A season ticket in 79/80, in the then new John Ireland stand (J7) was £36

Adjusted for inflation, that's about 170 quid today.

Still better value than we get now, though remember thanks to us sitting in the Chump League, you get a whopping 23 home games now!

That's £109.04 in today's money...and you got to see all the reserve games as well which I'd frequently take the chance of doing if I lived locally.

1908 FA Cup winning side. The final was contested by Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United and played at Crystal Palace Park.

Newcastle had just finished fourth in the First Division during this season, after winning the league in 1906–07.

This was their third FA Cup final appearance in four years (although they had yet to win). Their 6–0 thrashing of Fulham in the semi-final is a record win for a semi-final. By contrast, Wolves had finished ninth in the Second Division.

Nevertheless, Wolves upset the odds by winning the match 3–1, with goals by Kenneth Hunt, George Hedley and Billy Harrison. James Howey scored the Magpies' reply.

The Lord Mayor of London, Sir John Bell, then handed the trophy to Wolves' Billy Wooldridge.

There is a player in that team with the same surname as me, I always wondered if he was any kind of relation?

Wolves have always been at the forefront of modern technology.

Here the players are looking at a "crossing" machine.

I'm struggling with this picture..the "T" panel ball suggests it could be the late 1930's
It is something Buckley would do..?
I don't believe its either Flowers or Hancocks, its possibly reserve players although one looks familiar.

A very interesting read that, wolvesforever, I read it online late last night and was going to put it in here as well. The Wolves bit is two thirds of the way down but the whole article is well worth trawling through.

Quote:
Buckley was notorious for injecting his players with extract from monkey glands, a new scientific wheeze designed to fill the squad with confidence and vigour. The injections were first administered to the team in 1937 by the chemist Menzies Sharp, whose “secret remedy” was influenced by French experiments in which testicles from young animals were grafted onto old knackered ones, causing the senior creatures to magically regain some of their youthful vim. Buckley tested out a dozen injections on himself, enjoyed how he felt and imposed a course on his squad. The practice was extremely controversial. “If players have got to be doped to get results, things must be pretty bad,” blasted Bolton Wanderers captain Harry Goslin. “It is a selfish policy, and the principle of the thing is wrong. “The FA eventually “voiced disapproval” of the treatment after holding a summit meeting, though most of the affronted passion that day was reserved for another contentious issue, that of “showing strongly against the televising of League matches”. Gland treatment was not made illegal.

I have read in a Wolves publication that it's a myth. The media thought it was happening and there was a lot of belief by teams that it was but Buckley said that if that was the case let them think it and it will give us a psychological advantage...or words to that effect.

I won't accept it as a fact unless it's acknowledged by any reputable Wolves historian with evidence of it happening.

Without looking, is that the game John scored a hat trick?

I don't like the look of that Reading geezer untying de Wolf's laces.
