Wolves have qualified for the 2019/20 Europa League, marking the club’s return to major European competition for the first time in almost four decades.
The UEFA Cup finalists of 1972 are back in the tournament following Manchester City’s 6-0 victory over Watford (don't laugh) in the FA Cup final at Wembley this evening, which led to England's third Europa League spot to revert to the side which finished seventh in the Premier League.

Wolves last took part in the competition back in the 1980/81 campaign, also when the Europa League was under the guise of the UEFA Cup. Unfortunately, a John Barnwell-led side fell at the first hurdle, in a 3-2 aggregate first round defeat to Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven.
With a flood light failure at Molineux, in the second leg.

Nuno's men will enter next season’s Europa League at the second qualifying round, with the first match in a two-legged tie scheduled to take place on Thursday 25th July. The second leg will be played on Thursday 1st August.

What a turn around at Wolves, especially after Jeff, said, "Wolves will be part of Fosun forever"

But we aren't ready! Sorry UEFA, you will just have to accept our apologies.

We need to withdraw our application.

Can't wait to see who we draw!!!!

Anyone any ideas when it is made?

We get back from China only abut 3 days before first game...!

I suspect Nuno will send home a few players before final China game so as to be ready for Europa League. What sort of side will he put out? Mix of experience and youngsters?? Carabao Cup side??

Gonna be great!

Thanks Nuno and Jeff!

Isn't it strange how football fortunes swing first one way and then reverse themselves back another?? After having suffered the painful loss to Watford at Wembley, I feared that we would drop down to 9th or 10th and that our season would slowly peter out. How wrong that I was, we finished 7th and are now in European competition, a marvellous achievement indeed. Watford, by comparison, had bad results after getting to the Cup Final and their form was slipping away. We, by contrast, battled on and managed to attain that magical seventh place finish. Now, in hindsight, it was better to have lost that game at Wembley and finish up getting into Europe. Imagine us travelling back home yesterday having been mullered 6-0..??!! Weird game at times is football. Now we look forward to the 2QR EL draw and dare to dream yet again. The squad will need a couple or three additions to cope with the EL games as well as domestic competitions but let's see how and who we may recruit in the summertime. I want, at some stage, if possible, a Wolves v Monchengladbach Europa League tie.....that would be superb for me. The season that once again, kept on giving...unreal for a Wolves fan, you have to rub your eyes to make sure it is reality. Halcyon days.

Thinking back to standing half way up the South bank against PSV all those years ago when the lights went out.

Who would have thought it would have taken so long.

Yes mate they do. Go on to their forums and have a read/laugh. Two guys suggested firing the manager and a few more said sack the players. But unreasonable isn’t it?? Bankers to be in the relegation fight next year. One of them called Deeney fat and useless.....we told you that a while ago mate..

Depends. If it’s cork city or some other minnow, then he will play the U23 side

To be honest, how many of us thought we would beat City if we'd got there...not many? However, we certainly would have given City a game, a different game. Watford could have been hit for double figures, they totally lost their way, and it must have been hard to watch for their supporters.

As for our European adventure, the club need to really plan carefully for the next season, and NOT get distracted by this exciting novelty at the expense of our Premier League position.

The only thing that surprises me with City is they don't win by six most weeks even against the so called better sides.

Tactically so different to the others.

A university side in the Welsh Premier League, Cardiff MET FC have qualified for the Europa League.

All of their players are under-grad or post-grad students.

Perhaps it wasn’t so surprising that Watford lost. They have a horrible record against the top six. They have played 12, won 1 and lost 11....

That’s in the league.

If you include that they were dumped out of both domestic cups by top six sides...one of which hit them for six....relegation next season?

What a joke, just about sums up the prestige of the competition.

To be fair, any team from the Welsh league is about the same....and a lot of other small countries. I doubt that Arsenal fans think it is tin-pot. Frankly, if we got into the finals then neither would I.

You have to let the smaller counties compete in Europe somewhere and give them one day to shine. Welsh teams have always qualified and pretty much always fallen at the first attempt....

Fair enough a team from the Welsh league qualifying, but a University?!

They are still a Welsh league side. Doesn’t matter if they get their players from the post office, local rubbish collection agency or University. I don’t see how them being a Uni side makes them any more or less tin-pot than any other League of Wales side...

A friend of a friend plays for that Welsh Uni team, they are in the preliminary round so probably won't make it to our round

Aren’t they actually the best Uni team in the land? They have won the Uni cup recently I think.
