Just experienced my fist dose of it this morning. :smt078 :smt078 :smt078 :smt078

Felt dehydrated and drank a glass of water...bad idea!! :smt078

Fuck it, do I feel weak!! If you've had it you'll know what I mean; I haven't been sick for 22 years.
If you've never had it - some advice: only take small sips of water. :smt090

Just ate a bowl of cornflakes...they've never tasted so good.

No replies - I'm guessing that you haven't ever had it. You're lucky.

Just ate a bowl of watered-down soup. Recovering nicely.

For those who haven't had it and have heard of those who have, like me, you might have not thought too much about it. I tell you, it's not like any normal case of sickness and the runs - it really hits you badly. Anyhow, it's one of those things that comes suddenly without any warning, stays a day and a half (and you want to do absolutely nothing) then it leaves quickly...so no damage done.

Up the Wolves.

How do you know what it is/was that you had contracted?

I'd never heard of it before now, but it sounds very similar to some bad bug or food poisoning type thing.

The effects are just the same but as we had friends around for dinner and I was the only one who was ill so I guess that it wasn't food poisoning.

My daughter had it ten days ago and it's something that's going around.

It's quite well known in hospitals and it is a bugger to stop it spreading once it's in there. Best known for the projectile vomiting feature that is quite common.

It probably has no lasting effect on an otherwise fit person but it is very serious for those who are already frail or ill.

In this case then, I do know what it is and is why folk complain of coming out of hospital worse than when they went in.

In Eastern European clinics, dentists, hospitals etc. we are required to hand over our top coats in the foyer for example and made to don one time wear plastic bag type things that fit over your shoes/boots. One box for clean shoe bags and another for used when you depart.

All I saw in the UK hospital when I went to visit my Father was numerous signs telling/advising folk to wash their hands or use that gel provided. Obviously, the bugs are in and being brought out again. :(

But they still prefer to come over here for free treatment. My Dad said that the standards of care in German medical centres and hospitals put those in England to shame. When his wife died he came back to here and died himself within 4 years but he said all along that he wasn't being treated as well as he was in Germany.

Anyhow, just ate a roast chicken dinner so am getting back to normal.

With norovirus you wouldn't have been able to get to the doctor's until it was all over.

I woke up in wrinkled stockings and curlers. I rang the NHS helpline and they diagnosed Noravirus.

"It's norofuckingbrokenlegeither" I said, "but what have I got?"

Had it a few years ago. By far the worst 3 days of my life. I survived on a diet of soup and 7up.

Yoooth of today, poofs.

That's all I eat now. When I'm feeling poorly I just cut out the soup and the Seven-Up and survive by sucking on old ring-pulls.

Haven't you got a bed pan?

Any way, I always find that enough alcohol, and you soon forget you've got the shits, and the like.

Edit: I trust you're feeling chipper again SEL?

Think of those poor POW barstewards on forced labour building the Bangkok to Rangoon railway line through a jungle with very limited medical supplies, Malaria, Belly Belly, Cholera, Dysentery etc. Diarrhoea and vomiting to them was like having a mild itch no doubt.

One of them old codger veterans would no doubt say, I had acute Novo-virus and still went to work and laid a mile of railway track.

Talk about dying on your feet - our generations ain't seen nothing yet.

Norovirus? Luxury! I once got stung by a Box jelly fish after having my leg bitten off by a Great White Shark, and had to crawl home, but still drank 10 pints, and got up at 5, to lay a mile of rail track.
