What's the point of sudoku? What's the point of cryptic crosswords? They're entertaining.

As for algebra? It's non-verbal reasoning. It's a puzzle and if you can do it it's "entertaining" but if you can't then...

There's a lot to learn from algebra and if you can learn to do it then you'll become a more fulfilled person for it...just like sudoko and cryptic crosswords. You see the world differently and you understand things in a logical way.

Just my opinion.

I hate it when English people say they're pissed, meaning pissed off. And 'Excuse me' used to be something that you said to gain the attention of somebody, to speak to them or squeeze past. Now it's replaced 'I beg your pardon', when already in a conversation with somebody, usually used rhetorically. So I'm walking along and people keep saying 'Excuse me' to each other and wondering why I'm turning round to see what they want. Bloody US television.

..a while ago I accidentally pushed into an elderly lady whose angry retort was 'excuse me'....I couldn't help replying 'oh ..that's OK love'.....she was red with anger. The fact is the the English have any number of useless and inappropriate phrases for any situation.

There's no money at stake so my focus is not what it would be.

Tell you what I went for Wolves 5 QPR 2, Now that scoreline looked quite possible when the players left the field at half time.
The fact Kenny Jackett dropped a bollock with his substitutions rendered any realistic thought process redundant.
Jackett as much as the keeper cost us more goals and a likely victory.

You've written some odd posts in your time, KK, but this has to be up there with the best of them.

Sel it maybe isn't so daft mate:
Chess is a game that requires problem solving and maths too so it makes good sense then to become a good problem solver means you'll do better in maths and so the other way round.

FFS, that article is about algebraic notation. It doesn't help you to play chess, it's just a means of recording your moves. It won't help anyone to play chess any better.

E.g. from the article:

Quote:
En passant moves are denoted by the file (column) of departure of the capturing pawn, followed by the square to which it moves, followed, optionally, by the abbreviation "e.p.". Thus, a pawn on e5 capturing en passant a pawn on d5 is denoted as exd6 or exd6 e.p..

Cheeky mare indeed. I wasn't born under a bush, you know.

No mate, it really won't help him. About as much use as a pair of scissors and a pot of glue for his cyber space quotations.

The term "algebraic" notation is only a metaphor for the system used to denote moves which uses letters and numbers.
