I refreshed the site page this morning only to find out that I couldn't log in although, I hadn't logged out from a couple of days ago.
My gmail was open with a message from McDogs: -
Hello Moscow Wolf
You are receiving this notification because you have (or someone pretending
to be you has) requested a new password be sent for your account on "THE
WOLF". If you did not request this notification then please ignore it, if
you keep receiving it please contact the board administrator.
To use the new password you need to activate it. To do this click the link
provided below. Now only being on my first coffee and it being sparrow's fart O'Clock, I follow the link, enter the password provided, it gets me in to the forum so fine, I then quickly check to see if my account has been hacked and someone has left abuse all over the forum in my username, but all seems okay.
However, I decide to change my password just to be on the safe side, but the one I entered, so the forum tells me, is the same as the one I already have and the new temporary sent by McDogs that got me back into the forum in the first place isn't correct. I managed to work it all out eventually, but how does this new password request work, how could someone or something, request a new password for my Username when I did not?
I had my Hotmail account hacked once and all of my contacts in there received invitations to purchase Canadian Viagra - not so funny when your 85 year Grandmother receives such.
Another point that might be worth noting; back during my MOD days, I used to receive messages via MSN and suchlike from the occasional Member from here telling me that they couldn't remember their password and I used to forward their details to McDogs.
I had to change/update my email address on here recently and after you have done that, the Forum locks you out until McDogs (Administrator) verifies and sends you an email to activate your account. That is not a problem, only lose a couple of hours as I have McDog's email addresses in my contacts, BUT for those Members that do have problems with forgotten Usernames and Passwords, the front page of the site requests that you contact an Administrator, but doesn't show you any contact details such as an email address - Catch 22 perhaps?
