Just going back to young managers at Wolves we did have a young player manager turn out in an FA Cup game at Molineux.

Shrewsbury at our place, just imagine if we had taken a young Graham Turner back around 1980.

Around 1982 would have been the first real opportunity, after JB, Graham would have been about 35.
I think in 1986, he was right for Wolves, and Wolves were right for him.

Also don't forget in 1982, we did approach someone from north of the border, that was visionary, although it was the wrong time.

Would there have been an opportunity to take Brian Clough around 1975?

Pulis gone.

Just waiting for their board to spend two weeks interviewing whoever happened to be on Sky Sports News as a guest this morning and being linked with every manager under the sun before appointing the assistant manager for the rest of the season.

Orville who used to work with Keith Harris was invited to reply. He refused on the grounds that he wouldn't work with dummies.

I think it's a mistake to fire him now. He would have undoubtedly kept them up IMO. He's never been relegated from the Premier League. His style is god awful, but he would have kept them up. And to play his awful style, he gets a collection of uncreative, basic players. Whoever comes in and attempts to play a more attractive style (which is what Baggies fans want) will have to redo the roster. Will they be able to in one window in January? It's a big mystery. They could end up with someone terrible. Or they could end up with a quality manager. But they let go of a sure thing. Should have waited til the summer when a new manager would get a transfer window and a full preseason to implement his style. Could be interesting next few months at the Hawthornes.

Clough went to Forest around Xmas 74/75, McGarry I guess was Ok, less than a year after winning the FL Cup, and before the unthinkable relegation of 75/76.
Brian expressed an interest in taking over at Wolves in 1995, after Taylor, and despite having his best days behind him, it would have made me a very happy person to see him at Wolves.

To my knowledge, we "lost" the opportunity to get Stein, Ferguson, and Clough

I don't agree it's a mistake at all, 2 wins in 22 games is relegation form, his team selections were growing more and more defensive even for him and the fans had turned, why should the fans have to suffer horrible football just because it's Pulis and he has never been relegated? I keep hearing all that careful what you wish for nonsense, fans don't wish for 8 defensive players on the pitch and less than 30 % possession and 1 shot on goal per game, at home.

His reputation has kept him in the job for far longer than say Steve Clarke or Alan Irvine were given and they didn't suffer form as poor as this season, Albion finished in 10th and 8th place before he was appointed so he has actually taken them backwards.

Mick McCarthy 2011/12.

Tony Pulis 2017/18.

"Be careful what you wish for."

Looking grim for them. I hope they stay up, so we can avenge the 2012 1-5 mauling of us next season (assuming we go up).

Fosun decided that an old duffer who produces mediocre football with a survival rather than progress mindset was not the way to go.

Thank the Lord they did. The foolish owners who still think these duffers are the answer deserve what they get.

To be fair, Fosun have never been in the situation of preserving PL status.

Now all the noises suggest that if we were to enter the PL, we'd give it a real go this time round, but it's a different matter after you've sucked on the teat of 100 million quid guaranteed income for a good few years and the alternative has come to seem like the apocalypse. That's exactly why these "survival specialist" managers will always have employment.

However, the duffers are not the answer. Fosun did not take the bait and get a "Proven" championship manager who would allow them to join the duffers games. Games in which the duffers create yo-yo clubs who never get to the "mythical" next level and never will. They create a two or three tier premiership with the clubs who can play football safe and gathering in the cash, with the rest bouncing up and down playing football that even their most ardent fans have little interest in watching.

Of course your point is noted, with owners never seeing a bigger picture and a League structure which seems to be in place just to serve a chosen few. We have chosen a different path. Can't believe we've done it, but I for one praise the thinking.

Funny at Goodison, Big Sam, brought in Little Sam, nice to see a Red wearing Blue
And he also brought in another first team coach in Shakey, to work along side the existing first team coach, Big Duncan, strange they never told Duncan, to leave..lol

Leonid Slutsky gone. No surprise there. No idea wtf Hull were thinking when they appointed him. He was absolutely dire as manager of Russia.

To be a successful Russian manager, you need to be Dutch. The Italian that managed England did even worse there and the fans had to club together to pay him off.

Wouldn't surprise me, you can tell when he speaks about the game there is knowledge there.
