Hughes's replacement won't have much time to assess the squad and get replacements in before the window shuts. Bad timing if you ask me. - even if nobody did.

I wonder if Mark Hughes blamed the officials for his sacking? he blamed them for everything else except his own good fortune, good riddance. Sack Cotterill, appoint Hughes, get relegated, sweet!!!

Hi Sel, what do you think about the timing of Hughes' sacking?

Stoke's first and second choices have turned them down. Tick tock!

What odds on Hughes coming back?

Apparently the first choice was offered a tremendous deal.

Yep, I'm really surprised he didn't accept. Something must have been said with regard to the job which put him off. Transfer fees? Expected tactics? shrug.

Only because clubs keep hiring the same managers. There are plenty of good young managers in the Champ and League 1 but no one is ever willing to give them a chance, so they're all stuck rotating the same 15 managers or so.

When clubs do take a punt it's usually a foreign manager from another popular league. Oblivious to the fact that person started in their own countries lower leagues or with no experience, but then got the pathway to a bigger club.

Klopp is a perfect example of this. Impressed with a smaller club, but then got relegated, even failed to get them promoted the next year before quitting, but still got the chance to manage a big club like Dortmund (who were struggling at the time to be fair). Could you imagine that happening to a young English manager?

It's the same brick wall hit by our top young players.

Stoke City spokesman: "We are delighted to welcome Paul Lambert to the club. Once we'd been turned down by Gary Rowett, Quique Sanchez Flores, Martin O'Neill, Robbie Williams, his good friend Jonathan Wilkes & Trevor from the canteen, we knew Paul was the right man for the job."

The Spanish club were willing to forgo Flores release fee of 4 million as long as Stoke bought one of their players for 20 million. bit naughty.

Martin O'Neil was asked to have a 50% cut in his salary should Stoke be relegated.

Lambert probably accepted that deal.

I have no real problem with Lambert, but it is underwhelming if your a stokie..shame.
His power point presentation must have been good and centered on how we beat them in the cup, last year and their weaknesses

A phone call to Kevin Thelwell would have sealed it.

Look for the ones in our squad with a poor first touch, Nuno got rid of most of them during the summer.

That reminds me of Bully. 8)

I have to say, though, our ball control is superb and Mir will have to improve some to come up to speed with the rest.

Yes, they were married on the beach at Southend, 18 months ago. They are now officially separated.
