Could we make our own, Footballers Book of Remembrance, to share and celebrate memories of ex-players, we sadly lose.
I'd like to start with.. Dave Mackay - who was simply "a winner"

absolute leader of men when men were men and not some of the tarts that masquerade in today`s game  rip big man our thoughts are with your family at this sad time. only wish he had played for us,as with Frank Munro built of granite

Dave Mackay was a great player, and as hard as nails. Football was a lot different back then, and you had to be able to look after yourself, something Mackay did without a problem. He also expected players to give their best at all times, and would not tolerate it if people were slacking.

What a rock he was.I remember an iconic picture of him grabbing Billy Bremner by the throat and offering him some advice.Neither player gave or asked no quarter. Today Bremner would have flung himself to the floor as if being shot in the face with a scatter gun just prior to a salivating referee following through into his shorts with breathless anticipation of pulling out a red card. The picture was similar to Vinnie Jones grabbing Paul Gascoine by the swingers, similar but ironically worlds apart.

With Spurs against Chelsea at Wembley last weekend I wondered if Dave Mackay would have been guest of honour.
I still remember him lifting the FA Cup in 1967 when those sides met, strange how the mind has vivid memories.
I remember Chelsea wearing all blue, even socks which made them look stronger and taller, that and Jimmy Robertson.
You realize your not here long, from a day of perfect health and achievement that seems five minutes ago, to gone.. Whats mortality eh.

Sad news to wake up to the passing of Alan Woodward the Sheffield United legend. What a wonderfully talented footballer he was, there was thunder in his boots.
I used to imagine Alan Woodward in the number seven shirt for Wolves with Wagstaffe in eleven and think try and stop those two.
Couldn't he hit a ball Alan, it stayed hit. Those corners he took were a work of art, everyone of them seemed measured.
RIP Alan Woodward, Sheffield will weep tonight.

What I remember most about Andy King is his love of the game, one of the few who treasured every minute and you got the impression he would play for nothing. That and the memory says in the really big games he would be the game changer, especially when playing against Liverpool. A players player, RIP Andy.

Today is the 30th anniversary of the death of Jock Stein.
The first protestant to be appointed manager at catholic Celtic in 1965.
In 1964 Wolves approached him whilst at Hibs, to replace Stan Cullis.
John Stein a true legend of Scotland.

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of the death Peter Taylor..nice that the Main Stand at the City Ground is now named the Peter Taylor Stand as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations at Nottingham Forest.

Its 20 years since the death of Bob Paisley, a man, turned down by Wolves as a youth for being too small, he went to LFC and became Player, Physio, Assistant Manager, Manager, Director and a giant of English football.
