Hi all,

Here we go again, it's prediction league time :D

Before I launch it properly, suggestions were made last season about a revamp of the scoring system, so I would like to hear what people think? Are you happy with the current system? If not, what change(s) would you suggest? If we have a couple of proposals I'll do a poll so we can make a final decision on how things will run.

The current rules are as follows -

Correct score = 5 points

Correct result = (win/lose/draw) = 2 points (I'll remember to award the additional 2 points if you also get the correct score this season!)

Correct first WOLVES goalscorer = 5 points

Correct time of first WOLVES goal = 5 points

Time of first WOLVES goal within 5 mins either side of time = 2 points

0-0 draw = 7 points

Hi Cally - did you get my reply? In case not:

I have always thought the KEY prediction is the result.

1. WIN LOSE or DRAW - and this should be 5 points.

2. Correct prediction of Wolves goals = 2 points

3. Correct prediction of Opponent goals = 2 points

4. Name of Wolves first scorer = 3 points

5. Time of Wolves 1st goal = 2 points (1 point if =/- 5 mins)

So…
If I predict Wolves to win 3-1 v Everton, and Jota to score in 17th minute…. and all this comes true, I get 5 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 2 = 14 points

If Wolves win 3-2 and all the rest is right, I get 5 + 2 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 12 points

If Wolves win 2-1, but it is Cav in the 20th minute, I get 5 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 6 points

But if Wolves Draw 1-1, and Jota scores in 50th, I would get 0 + 0 + 2 + 3 + 0 = 5 points

And if Wolves draw 2-2 and Neves scores in 15th minute, score is 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 1 = 1 point

The PRESENT scoring system means that if someone gets the result MILES wrong, but luckily gets the scorer and time, they get loads of credit.

(So at present if Wolves LOSE 1 - 7, and you predicted a WIN by 5 - 0, but you get the scorer and time right, you get 10 points. But if you were nearly right and predicted a Wolves loss by 1-6 but the wrong time and first scorer, you would only get 2 points! That CANNOT be sensible!)

However, it is you who must decide what is EASIEST for you to manage. I think my system would be simple and fairer (but am happy if you want to change the balance of points a bit!!)

GOOD LUCK!!

Come on guys & gals - get posting!

Cally wants our IDEAS!

BUT HER DECISION IS FINAL.

THERE IS NO APPEAL

THERE IS NO VOTE

THERE IS NO SECOND REFERENDUM

Autocracy is the best way of avoiding a Trump - as long as the autocrat is as wise and nice as Cally!

I`m happy with how it is to be honest. Nice and simple but I`m happy to go with the flow.

Agree mainly with Cally's and Silver's ideas, I will go with the flow, happy to do so. My ideas would be:

Correct end scorecast: 7 points. i.e: Wolves 2 Everton 2.

Correct tendency ( win/ loss / draw): 2 points. i.e: Wolves 1 Everton 1.

First Wolves goalscorer………………..4 points.

Timing of Wolves first goal +/- 2 mins.....3 points.

Correct number of Wolves goals scored:...…..2 points.

Correct number of opposition goals scored:...2 points.

0-0 draw...…………………………………..7 points.

Red cards in the game...…………...2 points each.

Presume we're saying you can't predict a wolves goal scorer and put us down for a 0 as well to hedge bets

Is that double jeopardy?

Just cos someone is wrong on one bit (zero goals) does that mean they HAVE to be wrong on the other?

In my proposal, a correct 0 - 0 proposal would score nine points (5 for result and two for each number of goals prediction)

If someone proposes 0 - 0, and Wolves win 1 - 0 with a goal by Jota (correctly predicted by the 0-0 person), they would score just 3 points.

Seems fair enough!

What would they get 3 points for? (I got 2 points for correct opposition goals based on your suggestion?) If they’ve gone for Wolves to not score and put a goal scorer down anyway they’ll be contradicting themselves. It’s a bit cheeky to predict like that, if you don’t think we’ll score then why put a goal scorer?

The kind of bets you can do on fixed odds coupons could be used in prediction leagues.

Stuff like half time result / full time result.

Easier than time of goalscorer and more likely to gain you a point or more.

Keep it simple Cal or you will kill it before the punters do. Half time full time, corners and cards, assists and free kicks, it will take you hours

Christ, assists and free kicks? That’s more than what we already do! All suggestions have been sensible so far, I think I’ll cope with a few changes

I think Rozza was being ironic!

Simplicity is the key. The present system gives too great rewards for unimportant stats. Surely it is the result and the goals that matter? Times and scorers are incidental, and cards, assists etc are irrelevant!
