That's crazy. If they sign Varane and Jones they still have Smalling and Evans for that CB spot. Unless they see Jones as a midfielder in the long run or they see Evans as not making the grade then I don't understand why they are making this transfer.

I dont think they see Evans as making the grade as a regular. You cant rely on Vidic and Rio to stay fit all season so they need to start thinking about other options, Jones would be a great signing imo and im sure the player and England will benefit from it. Evans is like 4-5 years older than Jones give him a couple of years at United and he could be immense

clever by manutd imo

rio has another 2-3 years in him and vidic will likely departs next season

if utd net this gea from madrid as keeper they pretty much have back 5 potnetially sorted for the next 10years with

-----------------------------Gea-------------------------

Rafeal-------Smalling------------Jones-------------Fabio

Ludicrous prices for English players. Make the £5 million we will (hopefully) be spending on O'Hara look like small change.

Does anyone else see this as building a legacy for the following manager? He's buying a lot of youth the past couple of years.

I think Evans will probably go to Sunderland off the back of this. I think Jones will be a replacement for Hargreaves. Jones is the same height as Gary Neville and Ferguson transformed Neville from a CB to a full back.

I think Ferdinand has possibly one season left in him at the top level. Not down to his ability but because of injuries. Ferdinand and Vidic compliment each other so perfectly that it's wise to be blooding the youngsters to play to their strengths i.e Vidic can't handle pace and Ferdinand can struggle with the high ball.

The BBC's take on it:
Quote:
Blackburn defender Phil Jones is set to join Manchester United in a deal worth up to £17m.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13700351.stm

Does Samba want away, or not? Losing both would surely be a real blow to Blackburn. And what are the owners up to? It will be interesting to see if this money gets reinvested. I suppose they might be in for Johnson themselves? :x

I don't believe that any Premier League clubs have enquired about Mido.

haha.

Ameobi will play for that club into his 50s it seems, they are set to sign Demba Ba if he passes a medical and they are in for Erdinc of PSG as he is about to be replaced by Gameiro. All that considering that Pardew has said he is set to play Ben Arfa off a lone striker would say that Mido is probably lying.

Ferguson has a shaky record with goalkeepers but if you're good enough then you're old enough.

De Gea is a very good goalkeeper and at his age that price isn't to be scoffed at because they'll recoup it all 6 years down the line when Real or Barca come snooping.

Neil Warnock wants to offer Peter Crouch a dream move back to Loftus Road for around 6million.

Great, you've just linked me to a website with no credibility whatsoever. There's no chance that Crouch will go to QPR.

There were times when he looked very good for us as well, mate. Then there were other days when he didn't. We offered him a contract but he wanted more, it seems.
