  • Saville got about the last quarter of an hour of Bristol City's promotion clincher, a 0-6 win at Bradford City.
  • Fleetwood's 0-3 loss at home to MKD left them with only a mathematical hope of reaching the play-offs. McAlinden got the last quarter of an hour.
  • Chesterfield, on the other hand, look set for the play-offs. Flatt still hasn't got any match time, and Carter hasn't been in the squad for weeks. I think his father has died recently and he's struggling to get over it, but I'm only going from some stuff he's said on twitter and might have misunderstood completely.
  • Cassidy played all of Southend 2 Newport 0, a win which guarantees a play-off place for the home team. They might still get an automatic place. Jake didn't score.

  • Bristol City clinched the league one trophy today. Saville didn't get on, and I see no reason for them to give him any game time now unless they want to bid for him, which I doubt. Back with us Monday is my guess.
  • McAlinden got just the last few minutes of Fleetwood's game. They cannot make the play-offs now, and again I see no reason for them to play our lad unless they are thinking of a bid. This is slightly more likely than it is for Saville, but even so I think he'll be straight back with us Monday.
  • Chesterfield almost certainly will be in the play-offs. Carter was back on the bench today, which is great, along with Flatt. Neither got on.
  • Southend will also be in the play-offs (next division down though) unless they get automatic. They won 0-1 today. Cassidy played the first 75; the goal came on 90.
  • Telford have been doing okay since they got relegated. Reid got brought on as sub for the last quarter of an hour or so today, as the Bucks won 1-2 away.

Sam Ricketts started for Swindon v Walsall tonight. Bit of a nothing match, as they have clinched pay-offs already.

Cassidy started for Southend at Bury. Huge match, both teams just outside automatic promotion places. Currently goalless.

Swindon 3 Walsall 3 Ricketts played the whole game.
Bury 0 Southend 1 Cassidy was taken off on 55 and his replacement scored twenty minutes later. Southend leapfrog their opponents and are a whisker away from an automatic place now.

Sounds like Bradley Reid thinks he's a Billy big bollux, and needs a rocket up his arse. We paid Wrexham £200,000 for him. Great investment

Five-figure sum rising to a max of £200k is how it was described when he joined. I doubt we'll end up forking out any more than the initial fee, but if we did it would be good news.

Ha! “He’s a good player but he’s got to learn about non-league football."

We got him from Wrexham (who they play today), a non-league team.

  • Reid started for Telford v Wrexham. Playing against his old club and having been given a very public rocket, this is a big game for him I think. All Conference games kick-off at 5.15 today, so just got going.
  • Ashley Carter was on bench for Chesterfield v Bristol City. He didn't get on. They lost 0-2, but other results went their way and they are confirmed in the play-offs. Flatt was on our bench, which presumably scuppers his loan.
  • Swindon lost 3-0, Ricketts played whole game.
  • McAlinden played no part in Fleetwood's game, and as their season is dead now there is no reason why he should unless they were thinking of keeping him.
  • Cassidy played the first hour of Southend's 1-0 win over Luton. Once more the goal came after he was taken off. They look good for automatic promotion now. Sad day for Tranmere, where he was a success, as they slip out of the league and into the conference.

It finished that way. That's Reid back with us. What next for him?

Oh. Probably the U21 match for us Monday. :)

He can go and live in Cassidy's caravan.

Swindon play Colchester tonight. Ricketts on bench. Swindon in play-offs, cannot catch team in front, cannot be caught by team behind, two games left including tonight.

1-1 draw. Ricketts on for the last half hour or so: it was already 1-1 when he came on.

Ashley Carter's loan has been extended for a second time, and he is now at Chesterfield until the end of the play-offs. I'm hoping he gets some part of their game on Sunday, although it's an important game still. Their play-off first leg is on Sky on Thursday.

Vital match for Southend away at Morecambe. They are in the last auto place, with Bury just two points behind. Bury are away at Tranmere, a likely win, and this means Southend are likely to need all three to avoid dropping into the play-offs. Cassidy on the bench.

League 1 is tomorrow and Telford have no more games, so I reckon that's the only game for our loanees today.

Southend blowing this. 2-1 down, and Bury are 0-1 up at Tranmere. Bury pinching third, and the auto spot with it. Jake remains on the bench, and they only have one sub left to make. Into the last 30 mins.

Southend are in the play-offs.

Today:
  • Swindon v Leyton Orient: nothing match for the home side, who finish 4th whatever happens. Orient need all three points to stand a chance of escaping relegation though. Ricketts starts for Swindon, and captains them too.
  • McAlinden probably officially back already. Not in Fleetwood squad.
  • Still waiting for news of Chesterfield.

Ashley Carter on bench for Chesterfield at Sheff Utd. Just about to kick off. Both teams guaranteed play-offs, but Chesterfield will avoid MKD in the play-off semis if they win.

So Nibbs, who is due back now the season is almost over?

Who do you reckon we will keep or offload from our legion of mercenaries?

Jake Cassidy is still only 22, and could possibly make it as a player. He's drifting backwards down the leagues though, and can't start regularly with any of his clubs. There seems to be a pattern where he is used gradually less and less by each club he goes to, although he does still get game time. Southend are in the play-offs: they probably have some decent players for their level, but it's still disappointing that he doesn't command a regular place. His contract is up, but we have an option. I don't think we'll be taking it up though.

Liam McAlinden still has a year on his contract. I expect him to spend most of it out on loan, and then he'll be gone. He's still 21 though, incredibly, so they might give him more time. He's never going to be quick enough though.

It would be astonishing now for Sam Ricketts to be back playing for us. Contract is up, he's gone. If he stays at Swindon there's a chance we'll be up against him next season.

I've got a lot of time for Georg Margreitter. He was given a chance, came up a little short, and has dusted himself down and got on with it. Gets praise from fans and managers wherever he goes. There's still a year on his contract, and again he'll most probably spend most of it on loan and then he'll be gone.

There's some confusion over Zeli Ismail's contract. It might be up, or there might be a year left. I think he'll be gone as soon as we can offload him. Again though, he's only 21.

Leon Clarke's contract is up. Gone.

Bjorn Sigurdarson still has a year left. I'm not even sure whether he's still at Copenhagen, or when their season ends. Gone as soon as we can be rid, I'm sure.

Your guess is as good as mine over George Saville, but the general consensus is that we need to sign another midfielder, which suggests that Saville would need a very good pre-season indeed or he's back out on loan.

I think Flatt and McCarey both need sending out on loan, but I'm not sure what level we can loan either to, especially Flatt.

Which leaves Ashley Carter. Nineteen-year-old left-footed central defender. He might be decent. I'm hoping he gets some game time for Chesterfield in the play-offs.

I forgot Bancessi. There's another year on his contract, and we have an option. I think he'll be out on loan again and they'll be hoping he shows a bit more than last time. Only turned twenty a month ago. Bags of talent, just not managed to put it all together somehow.

Carter never got on, but Ricketts played the whole game as Swindon drew 2-2 with Leyton Orient and thus sent them down. This despite Swindon having their keeper sent off.

Chesterfield meet Preston, who have been robbed of second place on the last day, and Swindon play Sheff Utd. The first legs are on Thursday.

IF the club have ANY ambition, then I'll be surprised if any of the above are offered new contracts, take up options, etc. Time for Thelwell to up the ante, or be replaced.

Agree.

None of the loanees has made an impact at a lower level. As such, their potential must seriously be doubted. I would wish all well and try elsewhere. Only possible detainees would be Saville (to see if he grows up) and Carter.

We need to IMPROVE our squad, not fill it with lads who simply are not good enough. We need players with PREMIER potential. (ie add to Iorfa, Ebanks Landell, Hause, Price, Dicko, Afobe - all young and improving)
