Two of the changes saw full league debuts for Gboly Ariyibi and on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ashley Carter, and Cook was please with what he saw from the young duo.

"You always feel that we're going to concede at the minute," said Cook. "I thought young Ashley Carter on the left side of defence was outstanding, it was a great debut for the young man."

McAlinden plays. Cassidy on bench. Dutton on bench, and I think he returns after this game. Saville no mention in Bristol C line-up, assume he's injured. Ashley Carter keeps his place for Chesterfield, who are away at Rochdale. I've seen no updates yet on the very worrying injury suffered by Leon Clarke yesterday.

McAlinden played 73 of Fleetwood 2 Notts Co 1, scoring the home side's equaliser. He was taken off when they had a player red-carded, but they held on for the points. Fleetwood in with a decent shot at yet another promotion. Fleetwood in a higher division than Blackpool next season?

Ashley Carter played all of Rochdale 1 Chesterfield 0. They are still highly placed, the away team, but they are in a very poor run. The problem at the moment seems to be scoring goals rather than defending.

Crawley won 1-2 at Swindon. Scott Dutton has been on the bench for every game since he arrived at Crawley, and is due to come back now.

Southend lost 4-2 at Stevenage. Jake Cassidy came on for the away team at 2-2.

Saville has gone missing. I've still heard nothing about the extent of Leon's injury.

Leon's injured his shoulder blade, which is a relief because at one stage they were talking about a possible spinal injury. He's back at Wolves being assessed.

Latics manager Malky Mackay revealed in his post Cardiff City match press conference that after undergoing a ‘second, deeper scan’, on-loan striker Leon Clarke has not suffered any fracture to his shoulder blade as was first feared after being stretchered off during Friday night’s match versus Charlton Athletic.

“The good news is that Leon has not broken his shoulder blade as we first feared,” Mackay said, “and that it is actually a muscle injury, albeit a serious one.

“How quickly he heals from here is impossible to say, but let’s just say that muscles get better more quickly than cracked bones and we’re hopeful that he could be back for us this season. It’s certainly some positive news for the football club.”

None of our loaned-out players were in action tonight.

McAlinden starts for Fleetwood at Chesterfield, but no Carter for the hosts. I'll have to check how long his loan was for; it might be up. No Cassidy for Southend. Bristol City team not up yet so Saville status unknown, Clarke already back here with shoulder injury. Think that's all.

Ashley could have played today; he is due back a couple of days later. Still nothing from Bristol City.

Saville not in Bristol City squad. So only Liam today; nobody else even on the bench unless I forgot somebody.

Fleetwood lost 3-0, and McAlinden was subbed off after 57.

Cassidy is going to have a hernia operation but he won't be part of our set-up again anyway as I don't believe we'll take up the one year option.

Ashley Carter on bench for Chesterfield away to MKD.
Saville on bench for Bristol City away to Leyton Orient.
McAlinden on bench for Fleetwood at home to Scunny.
Cassidy on bench for Southend, despite the reported hernia problems; they are away to Wimbledon.

I think that's all at the moment.

Chesterfield won 1-2 at MKD with a very late goal. Our lad sat it out on the bench.
Bristol City won 1-3 at Leyton Orient. Our lad got on for 3 + stoppage.
Fleetwood drew 2-2 with Scunny. Our lad got 21 + stoppage and got the assist for 2-1 before his team were pegged back.
Despite reports of hernia problems, Cassidy played the last 12+stoppage of a thrilling 0-0 draw between Wimbledon and Souffend.

Leon Clarke plays 84 minutes for Wigan at Norwich and assists the winning goal. Bloke's a star.

Crikey. Aren't any of them considered good enough to even start a match?

Ashley's only 19 and trying to make his way in the game. They wouldn't have renewed the loan if they thought he was rubbish. Saville...ah...uh...Saville...I don't know quite what to make of Saville yet, but I'm hoping his second season on our books is better than his first. At least Brizzle aren't a struggling side in their division, so he's trying to bust into a decent squad. Cassidy can point to a fitness problem at the moment, but the loan was fourth tier anyway which suggests regression. McAlinden came on and set up their second goal with a nice little header. He's not a rubbish player, but he doesn't seem playable as a main striker, and if he's going to be Championship standard it's probably just by the skin of his teeth. No disgrace in that.

Going back to Ashley Carter for a moment, he received a lot of praise for his second game and I was surprised that he wasn't even in the next squad. He's since tweeted some stuff about missing a family member (granddad, I think, possibly dad) and it's possible that he missed that game on compassionate leave, although I don't know for sure.

Hudge win for Fleetwood, 1-2 at Sheff Utd. Our lad day get on.
Saville got on for the last few minutes of stoppage time as Bristol C won at Crawley.
Southend drew 2-2 with Wycombe. Our lad didn't get on.

A little, but at least they are top of the league so he's trying to break into a winning squad.

He got just over twenty minutes off the bench at the end, and scored the third goal in their 0-3 win.

Video of Saville's goal. First shot was atrocious. Connected solidly on the rebound.

Very young and getting match time in a top team.

But he isn't getting much game time, as NW says, that's the problem. A strange loan to me, not like Jack Price who had a lot of game time at Yeovil.

Our "winger" Michael Jacobs is on loan at Blackpool until the end of the season, although we can recall him. I hope they play him in the middle, behind a striker. :)
