I agree he should be kept as an impact sub. From there lets hope does well enough to attract a buyer who will fork out a big chunk of what we paid for him.

I do think there is a psychological issue with Costa. He has sublime touch when he is on form but loses confidence easily and I feel that he is worried about getting injured again. Maybe a sports psychologist could help him.

Traore is what we were told he would be. Very fast, strong and sometimes tricky but not an intelligent footballer. I am surprised Nuno allowed us to sign this type of player who does not seem to fit easily into a disciplined system.

I'm gonna say it, I think Traore is utter shite and we can't play football when he is on the pitch. He can't read the game, keeps moving in to space other players are occupying and still runs down blind alleys, I think he is Nuno's first big mistake and was signed solely on the back of his performance at the Riverside.

I'd say that he would make a decent Championship player at about £4 million.

£18 million? Good God! :smt017 :smt073 :smt113

makes James Maddison look like bargain of the century!

Pretty sure in the murky world of football transfers, some of the ones we have to take are all part and parcel of a bigger scheme. Take him, and you'll get him further down the track etc etc

Mendes isn't Traore's agent, though, is he?

No, nor are Middlesbrough a club to grease the palms of for future benefits.

Traore is simply a misstep by Nuno/our recruitment team, presumably after a frustrating summer of trying for attract better. You would have thought we would have signed him far earlier had he been a prime target as his release fee was public knowledge, yet we took until three days before the window closed to activate it.

Nuno probably backed himself to mould Traore more effectively than Pulis but there seems little sign of any development in his game to date.

My feelings too, mate. That £18 million would have gone a long way to finance a better target in January or next summer.

Or just one of thousands of not particularly successful transfers that go on at every club every season.

One point.

Should the Newcastle keeper have saved the Jota shot that gave Wolves a one nil lead.

"Should", no. But with the level of accuracy, Jota gave a PL standard keeper a good chance to doing so.

Some keepers are passive and fall backwards as was the case with this goal.

Other keepers are aggressive and dive outwards in a Schmeichel kind of way and save that effort.

Reverse the question and say: "Would Patricio have saved it?".

One of those 50/50 type of shots, some you block by instinct, others you expect a deft placement, so......er…..NO.

Thts why I gave Schmeichel as the type that saves that kind of shot, because he dives outwards.
