Probably the worst display of the season. Every single player 1 to 11 was bad tonight and the subs were crap as well although they had to contend with coming into a total mess of a team. The last 30 minutes at Spurs has saved an otherwise pretty dreadful management of the Xmas period.

3 more wasted points to kick off the year. We desperately need a few real leaders in the starting Xi who won't accept this attitude of we'll play when we feel like it. Too many performances are simply substandard too often and that's not because of a lack of ability but a lack of bottle, heart and mental will to win at all costs.

Those thirty minutes against Spurs is the only time we have played well over the Christmas period. No coincidence it was playing the 343 away at a big club and after the defensive midfielder and Traore had been withdrawn.

Frustration for the fans as much with the system as the players because against those sides that sit in Wolves lack variety.
It was a cagey affair where both sides filled the defensive holes with both sides looking to control in safe positions rather than risk being done on transition.

Unable to play through sides because Wolves prefer not to risk numbers around the ball when moving forward. Checkmate sets in.

Yet Palace had the ace card, SPEED gave them the ability to risk a little more because they had that speed to recover.

Without knowing if Costa is playing to instruction its likely he will become the fans fall guy because he checks when the opportunity presents itself to attack the space.

Wolves against these sides will only create down the sides, and then only five or so times a game, adding to the fans frustration.

Should Wolves look to attack and get beyond the opposition down the sides, that's for Nuno to explain with his thinking of strategy.

Strange one was Ruben Neves positionally when added to the midfield.

Why sit on the back line to pick up and build the play, Coady and Boly are very capable of playing out with quality, its links through midfield that were missing.

Sitting watching it all unfold surely Ruben you could see where you were required, it wasn't deep midfield.

This business (widespread on the 'net) about turning up v the top teams and not to the lower teams doesn't add up.

1) We trounced (3 shots on goal) Leicester (away) who have been close to the top 6 throughout the season but it was our first game (lack of adjustment etc) and they won; the same thing happened v (1 shot on goal) Brighton (away). I know it's easy to say but we could have and should have won both.
2) OK, we've lost to Cardiff (away) but that was a close game and Jimenez was less than 2 cm from scoring.
3) We lost to Palace (home) with an offside goal and a penalty which wouldn't have happened if the offside had been given. However, I admit that we were poor.
4) We didn't turn up v Huddersfield (home) and v Watford (home) who were just outside of the top 6 and both beat us fair and square.
5) We played well v Liverpool (home) and quite well v Spurs (home) but we were gifted 2 penalties.
6) The rest of the results were all wins and draws against Everton, Man City, Spurs, Chelsea (all home), Man U and Arsenal (away) and lower teams eg Toon, Palace, Wet Spam and Fulham (all away), Burnley, Southampton and Bournemouth (all home).

The concern for me is that our home form is worse than our away form and out of the four night matches at home we've lost three and won one although three of them were against top 6 teams.

Conclusion: our results are largely a complete mixed bag with no rhyme nor reason to them.

I think top teams do tend to leave us more room to play because they are looking to go forward more but you are right that the results are more of a mixed bag than people are implying. Gary Neville's suggestion that they think they are too good for the lower teams was way off the mark.

The home form, 5 defeats in the last 7, is a worry but I don't feel that anyone can blame the support this time as they often do.

It seemed to me that the match on Wednesday was just a game too far. We tend to play a high energy game and that, together with the energy expended on the euphoria of the Spurs game, just left us flat. Doherty, for example, is normally up and down all match but he just didn't seem to have the energy on Wednesday - not that I mean to single him out because they all looked jaded.
