Another European night, another time to guess the team selection.

Forecast, how about another draw, one each.

We really could do with winning this one. I would rest one or two if possible, and Doc clearly needs to rest his knee for Villa.

Ruddy
Bennett/Kilman Coady Saiss
Sanderson Neves Gibbs-White Vinaigre
Traore Cutrone Neto (would rest Jota and Jimenez....)

I think Jonny and Moutinho could do with a rest too....

We need to win this one and get a grip on the group. This would potentially allow us to make wholesale changes in the last game.

Jota is suspended in any case.

On paper this is the weakest opponent and at home, if we have ambitions of handling the knockout stages of this tournament, we should be able to win such matches. A win would be welcome in any case, draws are becoming too much of a habit for us.

Team selection certainly a head scratcher for Nuno as he tries to balance selections which would enable good results both Thursday and Sunday.

I'm aware that this post could come back and bite me in the arse, but Bratislava really are a poor side. Even if we rest a few it should still be a fairly comfortable night.

3-0 Wolves.

Personally I think getting through the group stage is a higher priority than beating Villa so I’d play Raul and Traore.

Well, we've continued from Saturday in actually actively pursuing scoring the opening goal, but like Saturday, we don't actually look like we have a clear idea how to do it. Neto is offering as good as nothing in attack - can't interlink with his teammates to any effect at all.

Slovan look like they might have a goal in them unfortunately, their players have a decent technical level.

Lack that creative spark in the final third, missing Jota's quality.

What a dumb decision to let Neves take that. We've one of the best penalty takers around on the field and we give it to another player.

Phew! We got with that to a certain extent. It's still depressing how tough we find it to take the lead in a match, even passing up a golden opportunity of a penalty. Their missing defender might have helped with the goal in the end.

Overall we played on the front foot which was pleasing, but we have to develop some ruthlessness - starting Sunday.

Apart from Traore and Neto thought that was a very professional performance, Jimenez single handedly ensured we finally got a goal.

Traore is the original Diamond in the Rough ( Aladdin who ?) . He has the potential to be so damn good it's scary. Every season, every game, he gets better and better, and remember he is still a very young man. We are lucky to have him.

I often feel Wolves system of play can be self defeating because by limiting players to certain zones it prevents such things as numerical overloads and short passing combination play.

Last night saw Doherty and Neto finding high infield positions which when fully developed could enable better link play and chance creation.

The pointers are good.

I was at the game and apart from one scare early on when their later badly inured defender, Bajric, screwed wide from a great position. After that we dominated the game without having that clinical final ball and finish. We did deserve to win the game but with their defender off the pitch, Jimenez cashed in fully. We should get through to the next round now, all being well, a draw at Braga would just about do it but it is more likely we'll have to win at home against Besiktas to quality. Thought the Donk was excellent, Traore in and out but when "in" he is at times unplayable, if only his final ball can be polished up and also a shot or two from him when cutting in would also be good. Jimenez worked tirelessly all game and Mouthino and Neves largely controlled the midfield. Kilman was solid at the back, a calm presence exuding from him, getting slowly better and more experience each time he has played. Neto was very poor indeed, Vinagre also but those apart, we did ok and got the job done even if fortuitously. It will be a different game and challenge on Sunday, Villa will be in our faces and will get at us early on and we will need to dig in a lot and slowly pick them off later on. Hope that the Slovan player is ok, it was an horrific connection with his head, totally accidental.
