FA Cup football and wondering what side Nuno will select.

Will we be up for this one?

Well, we have to play a strong side as we have almost no other options thanks to our recruitment team.

I fear we lost the chance to progress in the original tie. United were basically there for the taking with illness and injury and with a League Cup semi-final to come.

Now that they've been battered by City this is their only cup hope and, on the back of a good home win and players returning to health, they will go for this one. They need the added credit in the bank before they lose at Anfield.

We couldn't keep a clean sheet against the Dog and Duck at present so without Jota it's a massive ask for Jimenez to score 2 or 3 on his own. I would take a loss here tbh if we can rest up and then beat them in the league in a few weeks.

Either go full strength or a full reserve side, not half half.

Looking at our fixture list we don't seem to have the same congestion we did first half of the season, however I think that is illusion that will disappear if we progress in the cups.

Realistically I would prioritise the league and Europa, both look wide open.

Agree.

If we had drawn a lowly side in 4th round at home and we could put out a weakened side in late January then I would go with a strong side.

But as we have to go to some horrid place (like Watford ... again) and have a physical battle, I would be happy to miss out own this one PROVIDED that our 'rested' players then do the business against Soton away, before the test of Liverpool (H).....

Again we are faced with what strength of team will we field? Myself, I would field a reserve sort of side and get this out of the way, do not fancy Watford away in the next round ( should they get through..) and we need to get some rest into very tired limbs at present. Lose tomorrow by a goal or two and then perform well at Saints, get the Scousers to feel our wrath and revenge for Anfield's "offside goal" and then do United up there in the league and I would be very happy. Need Jota back for those wishes to come true though...Jimenez struggles without him alongside.

We missed our best chance in the first leg. Let it go, field the reserves and rest our first team.

Ruddy

Donk
Coady
Saiss

Doc
Neves
Moutinho
Jonny

Traore
Jimenez
Neto.

He's going there to win, that team selection tells me...

Johann Cruyff turning in his grave in admiration of Jimenez there.

Fuck VAR.

Scandalous by VAR.
Accidental handball by Jimenez, no goal..
If it had been accidental handball, by one of their defenders, no pen??

Tis the rules this season, dumb as they are.

Better team, Neto and Ruddy outstanding. Just need a break or moment of magic, probably get extra time instead.

Good effort.

We should have led through that Jimenez chance before the next installment in the VAR vs Wolves campaign. Ruddy making his most assured appearance for some while.

Traore needs to impose himself much more. Sloppy touches and passing the ball rather than attacking.

We are somewhat playing with fire though with our very high line against their pace in attack, especially if Rashford comes on as well. A few straight long balls from them have been enough to put us in a spot of bother.

Defence are playing well, pity we can`t create a bit more. Would prefer Ruddy looked for the short pass more than lumping it for them to regain possession. VAR doing more harm than good to the game of football.

If we had Jota to come on rather than Gibbs White, I would fancy our chances.

It was Traore who went off for Oscar Burr.

All in all it probably isn't the worst thing for us that we are out of the cup. Would be nice to win it but with Prem and Europa still on the go and the size of squad we have they need to lighten the load.

I warned at half time that the high line was a dangerous game and Coady's positional discipline handed it to them. I never thought it would be old man Mata who outpaced them though.

Without Jota, we could have played all night and not scored. The ability to put the thing in the net was glaring over the two games against them. Some wonderful chances that that next level of player converts.

At least we have gained some recovery time on 4th round weekend now and won't have to play bloody Watford again.

It was Vinaigre injured at the end of the game. It was anybody`s game tonight I thought, but we look jaded. Stating the obvious, I know, but we need a bigger squad.

I think typical of our recent style was a move down the left which (I think) Jiminez crossed in. We had Moutinho and Neto both trying to get out of the box, Neto was some way offside and I think Moutinho found himself in the box by accident - he doesn't go there., anyway we had coming into the box - err Zilch, Zero, Nobody. We must get players up there in support.

Ah yes, I hadn't spotted that at the time.

Outplayed them but we get the needed rest now, did look jaded, Jota missed. Boly would have caught Mata.

Neto and that Williams fella could be battling it out at the very highest level for years to come.

I think our inside forwards pull too wide, watch Liverpool and their front three stay closer together with the full backs providing the width. Can improve going forward but Doherty had two headers to win the tie, normally he would score both.

Didn't deserve anything for the just the abject, second half we delivered up. Cannot recall a shot at their goal in that second half, very poor from us. But it is now less games ahead for us and that with our scarcity of squad is good. Attacking midfielder and another striker ( or two) needed in the next fortnight. We move on. So too should VAR...absolute soul destroyer.
