Ok scenario, I have just advertised my car on a specialist forum ... had some interest including a couple of lads from Walsall who, after test driving the car (read scared the shit out of me and a few pedestrians ) agreed to buy car and left me with a £200 deposit and we confirmed they would come and pay up and take the car on (Good) Friday.

Now, problem arises as I'm no expert in car selling and dealing with huge chunks of cash (6500) and I'm now paranoid that I'm gonna get lumbered with a wedge of dodgy notes and they're gonna be away with my motor. The plan was for my Missus to run money up to bank before they scarper .. but realised, bloody banks shut not only friday, but monday too.

I text him asked if he could bank transfer instead and he could take car as soon as funds appear, but he text back saying he already got cash out..

What are my options if he turns up with a pocket full of fifties (I dont know what a £50 looks like let alone a forgery) regarding not letting car go until the notes are in the bank, and the bank is happy?

Sorry for the essay!

If he has already drawn the MONEY OUT then why can't he make the deal tomorrow (Thursday?) in a BANK?

If not, tell him that you can't do the deal until Tuesday at worst you'll have to give the deposit back, but it is better than losing £6k+

Other than that, you need a good Mate like Rozza.

Edit: surely some local shop-keeper has one of those Note Scanners that could assist you for a Fiver/Tenner.

I hate to think what would happen to six and a half large, if I had it lying around the house. That would be the mother of all hangovers, and a shit load of tat.

Daz, are these characters travellers or something? It seems strange to want to buy a car with that much cash, when a bank transfer could be arranged. Be careful, and if in doubt, give them the 200 notes back.

I have sent him bank details so that he can transfer the money.. (I was bloody nervous about sending that!!)
I think I will wait until Fri morning and if nothing has gone through I will phone and tell him to leave it until Tuesday, if he is not happy about that, that may be the smelly rat that breaks the deal.

Cheers for advice

Hmm ..note scanner! Or one of them pen things?

Couldn't really advise on such, but I'm sure your local newsagent/corner shop could.

Some stuff on Amazon with reviews: -
