There are a number of drug cartel series out there, and I really enjoyed Narcos, especially the first series. However, Queen Of The South on Netflix focuses on the Mexican drug cartels and the rise of fictional character Theresa Mendoza played by the wonderful Alice Braga. From the beginning she is on the run and constantly avoiding death whilst the body count rises in brutal fashion. Forced to be a drug mule by Camilla Vargas and the Vargas cartel, she is mentored by her enforcer, James, and along the way Theresa proves her worth as she learns the ropes and demonstrating her street savvy. At one point she brokers a deal with Bolivian drug lord El Santo (played by Steven Bauer of Scarface fame), a religious cult nut case who produces the purest cocaine in the world, and the children of Santo with their creepy masks give you the heebie jeebies. I'll be sad when I get to the end of the final series. Superb.
