I was at school aged 15 when that magical album was released, some of my class members who had "rich parents" had it bought for them and they came in next day with it to piss us poor fuckers off..those were the days...........

It became pointless for the Beatles to tour because in those days the speakers were as good as you get in your bedroom.
So they couldn't get heard, the screams won.

So what next when the creative bones are working full throttle.

Get to the studio and let it all flow, and so it did.

It wasn't just the screaming, it was the total mayhem associated with touring.

The endless press conferences discussing the Jesus comment, the Imelda Marcos incident, being presented to sick children as though they were miracle workers, being stuck in hotel rooms and armoured vehicles. They did well to continue touring as long as they did.

Plus look at who it and they influenced in music..
3 days before its release my musical god was born, Noel Gallagher.

Now like him or hate him, his music defined a generation, and I guess tonight, either, Don't look back in anger or Live Forever will close the Manchester show.

Noel Gallagher is normally the preserve for 30 to 35 year olds.

Oasis were fantastic in the 1990s, the biggest shot in the arm for British music for years and the first proper band to get to the very top of the charts since probably the Pistols (ignoring the fiddle that they weren't the official #1!)

Musical influences.

I guess besides the Beatles it would have to be early Motown then bands like the Who and the Kinks.

Stateside it would be Creedance Clearwater Revival and that Country rock influence which emanated from Laurel Canyon which influenced Joni Mitchell.

Then there was the fusion of artists who played and met at the Troubadour in LA.

Others Bob Dylan when he went Electric, and Bowie.

I had the pleasure of studying A Day in the Life for my A-Levels which led me to finally listening to the album in full and I'm glad I did. It's a masterpiece.

Mrs LB had an Amazon Echo yesterday. I just asked Alexa to play the Album. Good memories. And , after all, I'm 64 tomorrow so I want to know if I will still be needed and fed.

Did anyone here ever buy the album The Fantastic Expedition.

Doug Dillard and Gene Clark.

Frank Zappa anyone.

I think when your looking to educate yourself you seek voices that inspire you, to open your mind.

With football I found Shankly and he helped shape my Socialist mind, then I turned to Johan Cruyff and Ajax because the English were never thinking tactically.

Same with books, I have hundreds now, before that thousands, and most of these are by continental or American writers.
Very few English.

What frames your minds, how did you self educate away from the usual dross they served up in bog standard Schools.

Where did you find your mind, your expression.

a friend of mine is a Zappa fan, likes all that crazy stuff, Captain Beefheart, Magic band and so on.

personally im inspired by music that's made because that's what they want to do, me being a non conformist at heart.

from the rumbling dirges of Alice in Chains to the speed and technicality of Fear Factory. Anything that makes a noise!

for me the 90's were the peak of my sort of music, there is a certain something that was captured then and has since been lost. Although i would guess everyone says that...

I found my mind and direction by reading the books of Colin Wilson. I read his The Outsider and and it blew me away........he influenced me to think for myself as well as out of the box.

Who is the only footballer on the cover of Sgt Pepper?
He contributed to breaking Wolves hearts

He made it 2-0, before half time, Jimmy Dunn scored one in the second half but the league was lost

Belated Birthday Wishes then LB. So what's the answer to the 64 question?

I thought that you had retired already?

I had retired - I just didn't wait my turn. I'm still being fed so at least of half of it is ok.

I was into the Stones and preferred Satanical Majesty's Request. I thought Sgt Pepper was good, though and it's certainly stood the test of time. I still enjoy both of them today but still prefer the Stones.

I can see what he means - those who throw a goat at oasis tend to be around that age group

I never bought into the Beatles hype - they were way before my time so I guess living through it would be completely different - I'd rate some of the 50's rock and rollers far higher in most areas
