It's been around for centuries ; i give it a try from time to time. Did an eight week course of mindfulness a few years ago and have worked in places where it's used. John Kabat Zinn is the main man.

Yes, Mr Low Hill... Mindfulness in one form or another has been around for ever. But I think folk assume it's just meant for some cross legged mantra chanting buddhist monk type....with hours of meditation or yoga and only suitable when eating natural yoghurt or being colonically irrigated.

Today it's being promoted as an exercise for everyone, and not just for people who experience anxiety/depression etc.

So did you carry on practising after your course?

I did indeed ; i try to stay in the present moment , without judgement, and concern myself with the here and now - not yesterday and not tomorrow.

Between stimulus and response there is a space, in that space is our power to choose our response, in our response, lies our growth and our freedom.
(Viktor E. Frankl)

On other days, i'm just a reactive, ill mannered, cantankerous old git.

Most of my customers concentrate on the here and now. They have no concept of yesterday or tomorrow, or getting up in the morning, tea times, when to shower, personal responsibility, moral codes, etc etc, only themselves and the now matter.

Perhaps my hippocampus needs re-shoeing or summat?

Well it might not work for everyone.....

And your clients might be content with their lot... their levels of anxiety could be zero, and they don't give themselves a hard time or worry. They're in the here and now. Who's more stressed?? :?

True this. The constant with my "client's" was always the total disregard for consequences and the look of confusion when they were pointed out and responsibility explained.

I shall read up on this, but Missus, have you tried 'beditation', in your quest to get a good night's kip? The other week, I had a 9 hour kip, which must be a record for me.

Yes chicks, I've done 'beditation' with clients. And once the techniques are learned the mindfulness stuff helps at any time of the day. It's getting folks to learn it and practise it that's the problem.

Hardly anyone comes down here nowadays Nutty. If you want to be recognised then, get yourself up into Banter.

I'm absolutely fine, everything is in working order, I'm still more horny than when I was at 20 years of age. Just should cut down on the smokes by 20 per day and the alcohol intake should be down to Milliletres instead of Litres.

Nice to see you, to see you, nice.
