They prepared the pitch for a result, we didn't win the toss and it's pretty much over now after 2 days.

53-3 chasing 482 with two days left and no rain dancing will succeed. It will be allover just after lunch tomorrow. Then, on to the next one, with hopefully a better pitch and that we win the toss again.

They have obviously picked the sides for each test before starting them with players coming and going. Plenty of swing in the next test so Jimmy starts

If you lose the toss in India, you rarely win....

We prepare green wickets to suit swing. They made a beach to suit their spinners. Ti's how the game is played

It wasn't a beach, it was a spinning minefield from day one and they have better spinners than we do in those conditions but by and large, you are right, home teams ask the groundsmen for what wicket they would like..c'est la vie and twas always thus..

To a degree that is true but the ICC are meant to have an overview. "Bumble" Lloyd has been saying that he wasn't allowed to influence the nature of the pitches when he was England coach and that more recently they have been interested in preparing a pitch to last for 5 days of income rather than an early result. Having said that I accept that India will want to prepare reasonably for a spinning pitch but that one just looked like there was no pretence at all to make it suitable for a test match. I bet the ICC do nothing though just as nothing has been done about Kohli's outburst at the umpire which would have brought disciplinary action to just about anyone else.

Won the toss, batted and 104-8 as I write. Game over, it hasn't turned that much yet either as a day one pitch, so wim fooked.

Yes the pitch is breaking up and resembles a beach, but it's the same for both teams. Why we thought they'd produce a pitch to suit pace with the pink ball, is beyond me. One spinner equalled a loss before we started.

You can't win a test on the first day, but you can lose it.. Making 250 on the first day would have put us in the game. 112 gives you no chance

I am more annoyed at only watching just under two days of play than I am with the result and performance. When I watched Root getting 5-8 I knew in my heart of hearts that if he could do that, then Ashwin and Axar Patel would wreak even more havoc and that we'd be all out before close of play, in reality it was far worse....arghh...

appalling yet again, we have learnt NOTHING from the last game. Do a Geoff Boycott and bat to defend your wicket with your life and bore and frustrate the bowlers. This game will be over by lunch on day four.

Bess is giving India a life-line. We are still in this, but Joe needs to keep assessing what he's got on the pitch, and if one keeps failing, DON'T BOWL HIM

Two good sessions followed by the last session that will lose us the game. We are shot to pieces mentally and cannot get out of this mindset that causes bad loss of concentration.

Why bother with the top order? Just give them ducks get Pope and Root in, and stop wasting time.
The definition of wasting time? Putting a heart/pace/step checker on Bairstow.

I didnt expect to win the series in India, I was more hopeful after the first test, but the manner in which the lost the next 3 tests, is the most painful part of the tour for me

Some smart pundit pointed out with the prevalence of limited over cricket, just how much time is given over to practicing defensive strokes in the nets?
Defence, an art which certainly seems to have passed our lads by. Wonderful limited over players they certainly are, but their inability to frustrate good spin bowlers and genuine pace, is a real worry for the future of the five day game.
