I know we've got a few fans of the beautiful game on here - any thoughts on the recent cluster fuck?

He's acted disgracefully imo and I'm pleased he's been dropped for this next game no matter how good he is, or how important the game his, or how terrific he was in the last game

There's a right way and a wrong way to go about things and KP and his power games and politics are just not cricket

I really dont think he'd have behaved like this if he was English

The ECB called his bluff and his youtube video was a last throw of the dice to try and save it. Failed!

He is not bigger than this England team even if he thinks he is.......

The Yorkshire lad will step up, farewell and good riddance, hate a man who throws away talent by letting his ego get the better of him.

All this stuff over the parody twitter account beggars belief

It's the kind of stuff you'd imagine 12 year old girls to be concerned with ffs

Pietersen was losing favour rapidly after drooping the one-day games and still wanting to play some despite knowing the ECB policy.

His recent form has given him the impression he has leverage but he fails to realise his stock is much less than he thought. That is not to say he is not a great player but rather to highlight others can replace him who isn't susceptible to left arm spin!

He has acted petulantly and does not deserve to return to the tam until he has time to reflect upon his actions and professionalism.

Pietersen is a very ambitious individual, and England have given him the platform to make his fame and fortune.

Cheerio Kevin.

I feel a little sorry for KP in all of this. Yes, he's arrogant, but I'd say there are plenty of other big personalities in that dressing room who aren't far off.

Since KP made his England debut, he's missed 3 Tests, and only 8 players in the world have played more international matches (all 3 formats). That's a hell of a lot of travel - I don't think it's too much for him to ask to miss a Test or so. Andrew Strauss and Jimmy Anderson were both left out of a trip to Bangladesh (I think) last year, yet KP is expected to play in virtually everything.

As for the texts, it was stupid, but they were private messages sent to friends. I guarantee what he wrote was no worse than hundreds of opposing players have said to each other in the bar after a match, his crime was that he left physical evidence.

The Twitter thing was blown out of proportion, but how would you like it if you thought your close workmates were publically taking the piss out of you? He overreacted, but I can well believe that he was on the outside of the England group (probably his own fault) and felt excluded, when in his eyes he should be captain.

KP is easily the best batsman I've known as an England fan. Even recently, he's scored more Test runs than any England player in the last 12 months, and has the highest average. His double century against India and the 149 v South Africa were as brilliant in their own ways as anything else I've seen, while his brilliant 100 in Columbo was the only thing that allowed England to take a semblance of dignity from the disastrous Asian tours of March/April

If Kevin Pietersen was English would he have been treated differently ?

If the reports in todays paper are correct, then I fear his international career is sadly over.

Yep. Or at least until Strauss retires. Although 'bowl around the wicket to get Strauss out' is hardly a secret. He's struggled with it for years and I'm sure SA knew it already.

I'd say that South African bowlers have a far better idea of how to get Strauss out than KP has. They'll have been studying him for ages, knowing exactly what his strengths and weaknesses are. I doubt KP takes huge amounts of interest in his teammates

KP might not but the England management / coaching would and they would know a players weakness far more than any other team would. KP would have a knowledge of that as would all the England players. Even what Strauss himself thought were his own weaknesses.

Been blown way out of proportion. Expected to play every form of cricket and he is easily our best batsman. He is good for the game, just a shame his ego really did get to him.

Strauss going, for me possibly makes it less likely for him to return.

Possibly, unless everyone agrees to a completely fresh start for everyone...

The more I think about this situation, the more I feel sorry for KP. There's no question he's been an idiot, but I think there are a number of other players in the team whose roles in this should be questioned

That may well be so however KP has made matters too public and not shown enough resilience to maintain his commitment.

A lot of people at work do not get on with each other but simply knuckle down and get on with their job. I think KP is a great player but he has simply brought most of this situation upon himself.

Has KP made anything as public as a spoof Twitter account? He clearly believes that certain squad members were involved in this - considering the fuss the ECB has made over private texts, they should have investigated the Twitter account

Many of the other players are as bad as KP its just they do stuff in private and there's a lot of envy towards someone earning TWICE their income.

It's just a great shame that the grace and skill he shows on the field is so sadly lacking off it.

Don't think so, and the others are nowhere near as 'bad' as KP.
KP is very, very high maintenance, and eventually it becomes tiresome for the rest of the group.
However, I would expect him to be offered a central contract, which I would doubt is much different from other ones.

I think the big problem was and still is what KP said about Strauss in his text. I expect it will get resolved in time, and KP will be selected for the tour of New Zealand. I am not sure he deserves another chance, but if selected he must get his head down and let his batting do the talking.

I think you could be right.

That will be a big test for him, commit to go to NZ and the series at home, and miss some IPL, or travel the World as a specialist T20 player, and miss back to back Ashes series.

His ego is so big that in his mind he doesn't think NZ are worthy opponents, but miss two Ashes series? I don't think he would want to do that.

Time to put up or shut up, KP.

I agree with you. He has all the talent in the world, but his attitude is terrible. If he gets another chance, then I expect him to be more of a team member.
