Obscure facts about sports or sportsmen that are not widely known.

Here's a starter.

Did you know in the American NHL teams on the road used to wear dark colours, it was just making life easier for the kit man.
White can be difficult to keep clean.

West Ham wear their current colours as they (when called Thames ironworks) lost a game against the Villa, but their coach won a foot race against his counterpart and the prize was that the Villa left their shirts behind.

At the 1981 FA Cup final Spurs supporters had a banner that said. Hold on to your knickers, its the year of the cock.

Chesterfield are the only English club team to have worn the Union Flag as a major part (whole front) of their shirts. 1892-3.

And while we're at it;
Wolves are the only Football League club to have diagonal halves as their registered kit. 1892-5

I think this stat will be removed this summer, up until now Brazil and Argentina have never made it to the semi finals of the same World Cup.

The Poorthorns is the highest football ground in the Leagues above sea level.

In the 1994 World Cup, Bulgaria fielded a team where every player's surname, ended with 'OV'.

Ethiopia's Abebe Biikila won the 1960 Rome Marathon, barefoot, because no pair of running shoes from official manufacturers Adidas could be found which would comfortably fit his feet.

Until Edwardian times, a six was only awarded in cricket if the ball was actually hit right out of the ground.
In a match at Lords in 1899, Albert Trott cleared the pavilion, but the ball landed in the racquet courts behind it. He scored four, and later became another cricket suicide statistic, the sport being disproportionately represented in that department.

Royal Ascot is a diamond shape as Queen Anne who was a fanatical sportswoman became so fat in her later years that she had to be carried to the course and was placed on a litter in the centre of the diamond so she could see the whole race.

I was talking to a couple of Wimbledon umpires who do the fortnight event.

Told me they get $7,000 dollars each plus expenses, oh and Roger Federer really is the nicest guy on the tour, down to earth.

Stan Mortensen once played a half for England, then a half for the opposition, Wales, during a war time international.

I'm suffering, who's going to carry me to work? I wouldn't mind, but I've been on the wagon for 10 days. This hasn't happened since 1987.

Yes, cherries are best, imo, especially dark ones. Pineapple works too, so long as it's a proper full pineapple cut up and not canned chunks, which would make things worse. Just eat slices of the pineapple on its own. Also, drink loads of water.

Horrible gout is.

Did you know about the career change of Jonathan De Falco a one time pro footballer, who fancied something a little different.

C B Fry was once offered the throne of Albania.

He also Captained England at cricket and played football in a FA Cup Final for Southampton loosing to Sheff Utd in the replay.

He also equalled the then-world record for the long jump.

Good old Charles Burgess Fry

I'd like a career change, but perhaps not down that avenue.

Also known as the ' Buggered Sprout ' who once audition for the remake of 'Shaft'.

Often touted as the ' Buttocks from Brussels' which pissed Jean-Claude Van Damme of immensely.
Given the latter is termed ' The muscles from Brussels' in certain quarters.....

Van Damme is reputed to have said I'll gladly give him a Karate chop. To which the 'Buggered Sprout' supposedly whispered " I'd prefer a loin chop"..................
