Bancroft and Smith "framed" Bairstow for headbutting when it was nothing of the sort and then did their best to make a laughing stock of him. That was sheer nastiness and I would like to see both of their careers ended for this rather than the cricket equivalent of an hour on the naughty step which the ICC have given.

The only plus about the stupid Aussie's behavior, is its hides England's poor performance against NZ

But to be fair to the Aussies they are disgusted at their actions.

For the number 1 and 5 batsman in the world to be involved, is bad

I wonder if anyone is pawing over the last ashes footage as we speak..?

I am sure that someone will trawl back through the Ashes clips now..

Cricket Australia will sack Smith as captain, and he'll get a 6 month ban
Warner will get a 6 month ban.

I now, don't think, Warner will ever play for Australia again..regardless of the length of his ban

I find it most interesting to put this in a footballing context.

Every week we see players not touched, falling like swans taken out by snipers.

Is this not cheating ? Is this not when it leads to bookings and sending-offs, action likely through disgraceful behaviour to change the outcome of a game ?

Cricketers, on considerably less money and not placed on a world-wide basis, on pinnacles as role models for kids to such a degree, seem to face the end of their career for being caught once. Cyclists lose their reputation and livelihood, athletes never race again.

Why do cheating fooking footballers get away with it ? Why do smirking, so called experts almost crow over the professionalism of some " professional" football, hero, CHEATS.

Sad indictment on players, managers, and the administrators of "The Beautiful Game"......

A one year ban for Smith and Warner, from Cricket Australia.
If CA stopped them from playing in the IPL they would have a legal fight on their hands, so the IPL have banned them for a season.

Not quite enough those, I think a two year ban from all cricket would send out a strong message. The IPL teams should also let them stew for that time as well, legal challenges or not.

He is as much to blame as them

I think the bans are too long. Faf du plessis has been twice found guilty of ball tampering and hasn't missed a game.

It's like causing embarrassment for CA is worse than the actual offence

From the Australian coverage and pals down under, this seems to be CA trying to get back a team it had "lost" in the changing room. Warner in particular, getting too big for his boots. This an ideal incident to show who's boss and reign in the new boys.

The offences were dealt with by the ICC and the penalties were not particularly onerous or out of kilter. The additional bans are about the way the CA believes that the their employees have damaged their reputation (and their commercial standing for sponsorship etc.) which is very serious to them. Personally I don't understand why Lehmann has not been treated in the same way. It is hard to believe that he didn't know about it but if that is the case then he has demonstrably failed in his ability to lead and control the team.

I certainly won't be crying for Smith and Bancroft as I was sickened by what they did to Bairstow and as far as I am concerned they have their come uppance. I understand that Warner is not particularly well liked even amongst some of his colleagues for his behaviour so I suspect there will be little sympathy for him too.

His crying was pathetic. But not as pathetic as some of the Aussie sports press cheering him out

Why hasn't Smith been asked to explain why he went along with the tape apology, when he knew it was sandpaper ?

Lie upon lie, followed by crocodile tears. Crying for his loss of endorsements.

I still can't believe there aren't more names, especially a bowler.
Still time to move on, fair play to Smith and Bancroft for facing the media
For me the man behind it all is the coward who didn't face the camera's

Looks like Warner was the instigator and was disliked by most of the team even before this happened.

Did any one see the tweet Trott made about Warner? England really disliked what the Aussie team had become over the last few years, seems there isn't much sympathy now the 2 people England disliked the most have come a cropper.

The usual spineless batting and one or two lower down the order rescue us yet again. Very poor indeed. The one day game has fucked up our Test game.

Seriously, they must be sick of the sight of a cricket ball. SIX MONTHS down under, and then they return to Blighty for the cricket season, and the England scene all over again!

Sadly you're right.

Half the team certainly look that way. They don't appreciate what a privilege it is to earn that amount of money playing sport, rather than the daily grind year after year of "working" for a living.

Not sure about that. In the last year or so, some of them will have been away from home for a hell of a lot. If you assume that players are away from home on average, the day before and day after a Test, in 2017

India: 16 days
West Indies: 14 days
ODIs: 9 days
T20s v South Africa: 3 days
Tests v South Africa: 28 days
Tests v West Indies: 21 days
ODIs v West Indies: 5 days
Ashes: 93 days.

So from the start of the India ODIs through to the end of the Australia ODI series(which then led straight into the New Zealand, Australia, England triangular tournament), ENgland players could have been away for 189 days, over half the year. I'm not surprised that some of them look knackered. And it hasn't exactly been an easy year from an emotional point of view, I bet most of them are completely spent
