I followed Rozza's advice last year and won nothing  Although I like the sound of Ucello Conti as well. I might go for Stellar Notion too.

As I'm a Harry Potter nut, my silly bet is definitely looking like Potters Cross 8)

Years ago when I were but a lad my dad said he would put a tanner (look it up if you are too young) on a horse for me in the Grand National. I chose Nicolaus Silver because I liked the name and it turned out that he was a striking grey horse who you could follow round easily even on a small black and white tv. It romped home at a decent price and for a few weeks I had more money to spend than I had ever seen in my life to that point. I'm not sure if a grey has ever won it since.

Yowd mek a good politician ken  . There will be forty horses in that race for one reason only, to win it. There will be 40,000 opinions on why certain horses can or cant win it so you make your own informed decision, or indeed go for One for Arthur because our first dog was Arthur, etc etc.

I had a day at Aintree yesterday studying form and drinking heavily. I had a £1 win super yankee on the first five favourites as did thousands of others I suspect, expecting to just put it in the bank. Well it day goo to plan, so in a pissed off mood I had ten each way on W W's ( Wolverhampton Wanderers ), it won at 17/2, you see where I am gooin with this ken... .

May I suggest that anyone fancying a day at the races to see what it is all about, do the Thursday of Aintree, the Tuesday at Cheltenham, or Ladies day at Chester before their increasing popularity crushes them. You will see just what a grand spectacle it is and what a great day out they can be.

I'm heading to Newcastle in July, will be my first visit to the races, can't wait.

For the Grand National I reckon I'm gonna go for Ucello Conti, Stella Notion, Cause of Causes & Blaklion.

Still looking for a silly bet!

Bear in mind that the going tomorrow will be the fastest that a lot of these horses have ever run on which will mean an equally fast gallop. The ground will be good to firm (Without Watering) which will be almost the same as a flat race in mid summer.
Things to look for.

Ideally carrying under 11st
Has course form
Has ground form
Has competed well in a National race, grand, Scottish, midland etc.
Jumps well.
Has previously won over at least 20 furlongs, 2 and half miles or more.
And most importantly it needs to be a spawny twat to get round.

For all you folk who already have a Bet365 on-line account, put E/W bets on before midday Saturday, and they refund 50% of your stake, which is credited in no time, and you can withdraw it, straight away.

This offer does not apply to Owd Rozza, as he don't do tinternet betting, he prefers to join the rank and file, of hopeless losers and deadbeats, with urine stained polyester strides, in the Bet Fred up Merry Hill.

No, yow ay, ar wuz thinkin more of them Farah strides. Enjoy your retirement, but bet responsibly.

Bloke over the road, is a horse racing fanatic, and he always seems to make some decent wedge, at the big meetings. He told me that he did Wincanton, or Sedgfield or some other little course, the other week, and he's now been to the races at every course in England, Wales and Scotland.

I went to Uttoxeter for the first time, last Summer, which was a good outing, but everyone was shit-faced!

I can accept the polyester and a tiny bit of urine and my beat now being dead, !!, but I am mostly never hopeless.
You sum up my point about getting to a race meeting before it gets spoilt.I have been going to about 8 meetings a year for at least ten years now and the number of fuckwits that turn up legless prior to entry is daft. The number of folk who frankly are embarrassingly pissed has grown and grown, it maybe that I spot or dislike it more, I dunno.

Waiting in the queue to get back into Liverpool yesterday, we were "Joined" by three respectably dressed very pissed and very loud men, not lads, fully grown men who were totally shit faced and lairy.
Unfortunately for the man who thought he could barge, elbow, and divert me and expect me to tacitly accept his freedom to be a complete cnut in a democracy, found he was sadly mistaken.

It maybe the English way of socialising now, but it should not be accepted as the norm, we go there for the sport, being unable to view or appreciate it due to others inadequacies should never rule, if you want to get pissed before going to get more pissed whilst not watching the thing you originally went there for, then getting even more pissed whilst looking forward to the night lying in the gutter whilst your chums get even more pissed is frankly daft.
Sit in front of the telly, with two bottles of Sherry and a pack of Tuc and save your money and your dignity you daft fuckers.

That is it, 'The English Way', but it isn't, it's 'The British Way', the Taffies and Jocks, am just as bad, if not worse than the English, when it comes to getting bladdered at a big occasion. It's partly a Celtic thing, but for us little Englanders, I blame the Vikings. Let's be honest, they must have been totally shit faced, coming over on the boat, getting pissed, staggering on to the sands, loud, lairy, and up for a fight.

It is daft, the bigger the occasion, the earlier you have to start consuming alcohol, Cheltenham being the zenith, of such occasions. That said, my Sister went on a coach trip to Ascot, the other year. 52 women gathered in Cannock, for breakfast, and some Bucks Fizz, or Stella, before setting off, in their newly purchased finery, and with some 'travellers', which no doubt sent the driver mental, with 26 women conversations, occurring in unison, with the volume increasing, as Berkshire got nearer. Once at the track, the ladies continued to enjoy themselves, with the sun shining, and one of them tried to sit down on the bank, to 'rest her legs' and ended up rolling down said bank, before remaining prostrate, on the ground. Later, back on the coach, one of the 52, had to resort to a carrier bag, to prevent making a mess. My sister ay been with them since.

I remember he beat my horse that year, Merryman 11, ridden by Fred Winter who had won the race the year before.

This year I go for.

More Of That.

I'm fuming!!! Blaklion was on course until then! Had Cause of Causes as a winner but didn't go for each way bet, will win enough for a pint for Blaklion though.

All horses finish safely as well which is great to hear.

Well, that was a load of wank! Vicente, lasted one fence, Saphir de Rheu unseated the rider, and I never even heard Drop Out Joe mentioned, so he may have been back in the stable having a kip, or a shit, for all I know

Me mukka also did the Bet 365 offer, and had Cause Of Causes and Gas Line Boy, the jammy feck. That said, all 40 Osses returned home, safe and sound, so all's well that ends well.

Shame for Blaklion, a furlong out his jockey had his Ronny Rosenthal and blew the glory moment.

Me Sister backed the winner, second year running. Works with a bloke, who's dog died recently, called Arthur.

I backed a load of horses at a few quid each way. Had the winner, third, fourth and fifth.

Bets cost:£54

Returns: £65.50.

Profit: £11.50.

Add to this a small win on the Australian Lotto of $19.85 and job done.
