I know PPE is in short supply, but.... 8)

Will you/have you shown your support for the front liners?

Done it from my bedroom window here in Swindon, Wilts. Lots of noise and a few fireworks set off locally too. The NHS: God bless them all.

Was on my daily village exercise walk when it started. It felt like I was running the London Marathon - me striding out, clapping, and almost every house had someone outside clapping. Loads of 'whooping' and whistling, and some got in cars & honked horns.

Nice to know they are appreciated.

And no more than the ones treating my old mate who came to the last Wolves home game with me. He is now in New Cross. Has cancer (for a while) and has had loads of radio- and chemo- treatment in last 6 months to prepare him for a stem cell transplant. Transplant postponed, BUT he now has virus symptoms and - because of treatments - his immune system is shot to bits.

On oxygen. Not looking good. Let's all pray for a little miracle. Great bloke. Great family. And his daughter and son-in-law are both doctors so the family doing their bit to help the rest of us!

I hope your mate gets well Silverstone - not a great situation is it esp. havng gone some way down the treatment path.

I do find it somewhat strange that hospitals are cancelling some (all?) cancer treatments to save beds when those patients who at critical risk from anythng at all should surely all be treated the same?
Cancer as per this virus knows no boundarys.

I wouldnt want to be the doctors/health staff making those critical decisions it must be very difficult and upseting for all involved.

Fingers crossed for your mate.

What's really gripping my shit at this time is that the whole country is making huge sacrifices in support of OUR NHS, yet ITV are continuing to show adverts from firms of ambulance chasers encouraging chancers to sue the NHS for perceived medical "Mistakes".

wankers.

Yes, and the NHS often make a payment because it is cheaper and easier than challenging it in court. There should be some way of enforcing swingeing charges on those firms who lose a case.

Didn't do it.

I wonder which PR firm or ad agency the government had come up with this one, the cringeworthy videos of nurses and police dancing they are putting out are even worse.

I heartily clapped on the first Thursday when this was proposed. I now think it's a shield, with members of the public being encouraged to join in with the practise by government as a form of social manipulation.

My wife, who is Chinese, has a new hobby. She trawls the far reaches of the net for medical equipment still available, and puts her name down on waiting lists for stuff that's not. She parcels up what she gets and posts boxes of it to a Birmingham hospital where friends have said they are struggling with basics. We both feel this serves a better purpose than government induced clapping

Edited to add, she seems to be able to get masks etc delivered on an almost daily basis, many from China. PHE can't.

I don't clap for the NHS - I support them more subliminally by following government requests on self isolation.
As the saying goes actions speak louder than words (or clapping- in many cases hypocritical clapping in a faux support stylee)

I have joined with my trombone teacher from Northampton.....

She stands at her doorway with her Sousaphone, and I stand by an open window trombone in hand in my Cotswold village, and we both blast out a 'popular' tune. It has met not only with applause for the NHS, but also a bit of community hymn singing ... reminiscent of the Cup Final of the old days!! (Except that as yet we haven't resorted to 'Abide With Me' - WHY EVER was that sung at finals???)

Cue replies along the lines of "THANK CHRIST I DON'T LIVE IN YOUR VILLAGE!"
