Once again we will be running a prediction league for the upcoming season. Last year the crown was taken by WolvesForever (Chris), who was at the head for the table for what seemed like decades, so we need better competition this season!

Before the season begins you can predict our final league position & top scorer for an extra 20 points when the season finishes. Make your predictions here. The thread will be locked before kick-off in the first game against Middlesbrough.

The current rules are listed below, I understand that a few people had comments over the scoring system so if you want to make any comments before the season starts then please let me know, I'll make a final decision before the first game.

Correct score = 5 points

Correct result = (win/lose/draw) = 2 points (I'll remember to award the additional 2 points if you also get the correct score this season!)

Correct first WOLVES goalscorer = 5 points

Correct time of first WOLVES goal = 5 points

Time of first WOLVES goal within 5 mins either side of time = 2 points

0-0 draw = 7 points

Predictions for each game MUST be posted by KO time in each game. 1 minute into the game and you have posted too late and it will be void.

Please avoid posting twice for the same game, I will take your first prediction if this happens.

Please do not predict Wolves to NOT score and then put a goal scorer anyway!

Good luck to all for the coming season!

Any questions, please ask.

Good one, Cally. Well done and thanks for that. However, look at the first two comments: 5 points for a correct score, 2 points for the right result and an extra 2 points for the right score. :?

What I mean is that last season I made a mistake when awarding points. People who guessed a correct score were only given 5 points instead of the 2 they should have also received for the correct result (hopefully that makes sense). Only a couple of people noticed and it didn't impact on the final standings anyway, I just thought I'd clarify what I was going to do.

I think that under Fair Play Rules, WolvesForever should start with a 50 point deficit.

Thank you Cally for taking this on again this coming season.

Thanks Cally - brilliant job last year.

I repeat my annual comment re points, though.

Surely the MAIN thing is the RESULT and then the SCORE, and first scorer and time of goal relatively unimportant (you could get 10 points, but Wolves lose 9-1 and you predicted a 5-0 win!!!)

I suggest:
5 points for result (W,L or D)
5 points for correct complete score
3 points for correct wolves tally (but not if 5 for complete correct!)
2 points for Wolves first scorer
2 points for exact time or:
1 point for 5 mins either way

Just a thought!

I see what you mean, but I would say that the result needs less points because you have a better chance of getting it right than you do for guessing the correct result. There are so many possible outcomes for this that I think whoever guesses correctly should be rewarded with more points. The same with the exact time, you essentially have a 1 in 90 chance of getting it right so the odds aren't great. After doing the scores a very low amount of people managed to guess the time or exact score correctly (I think a Chris got a fair few in a row which helped him loads!)

There's still a week to go, so I'll see what else is said, I don't quite agree with your point suggestions so maybe a change in point weightings might be a good compromise?

Happy to leave it completely as YOUR decision - after all you are the one who is doing all the work weekly!

Just extremely grateful for you doing it at all!

It is from my side of the ballpark, just a FUN competition and I don't care too much about what points are awarded for what. I could've won last season, but Paul Lambert let me down and is why I had him sacked.

As surely the most trusted member, none of us would challenge your integrity - until the accurate 6-0 away prediction, with scorer & time spot on!

Go for it Cally - why should you be denied ?

And Danno got loads of points despite getting result completely wrong. That was my point. Which is more important - time or result??!

We discussed this before, I wasn't happy to change the scoring system because I couldn't think of an alternative I felt worked. Sorry, but that's the way it is for this season.

As I have written elsewhere, I count this as a bit of fun, but had never taken a lot of notice of what you meant here and I now agree with you somewhat albeit, nothing can be changed for this season's contest.

I try to check the scores awarded and especially my own and wondered why Cally had got 5 points on a ''1-1, Jota 33'' prediction when I only got 2 points for a 0-3 Cav. 14 Prediction and it is because she (and others) guessed/predicted Jota to be our first scorer even though they might well have got the final result wrong.

Still, no worries, no complaints, just leaving this here as a marker for next season's competition.
