We should have a thread on this really

Thought we made a good start and so far I like Southgate as a manager
Could be best since Venables who was the last really good one

Will we make the quarter finals this time?

Who knows, its a strange World Cup with the VAR screen taking a prominent role.

One game at a time and all that while keeping expectation under control.

A confident England is capable of posing problems for anyone.

Sky was running a story about how England have fared against CONCANACAF countries in the past, not good reading overall.
It did remind me of just how wank Roy Hodgson was though.
I have a sneaking suspicion that England will do very well this time, mainly because I ay had any money on um.

All I hear is people singing their praises for Southgate, whilst the jury is still out for me. I want him to prove me wrong, and he's making the right noises. We shall see.

I think this is doing a disservice to Hoddle. Yes, he wasn't great at Wolves, but he was for England. We finished top of a qualifying group with Italy in it. I think the Le Tournoi team is the best and most cohesive England team since 1990. It had the core elements of Venables' 1996 team (albeit with Shearer, Anderton and Adams missing), with the likes of Campbell, Beckham and Scholes blended into it

We've made the Quarters goddammit, and now it's the big Swedes, which will be a different game to Colombia. Do we hope that Croatia beat Russia or not?!

We need a midfield worthy of its name if we are going to seriously progress.

I fancy us against the Swedes more than I did against Colombia.

Although our tactics of scoring off set pieces will do us no good here, they're giants. It does worry me that I don't know where our goals are gonna come from against them.

We made Sweden look ordinary, but Croatia are more attacking and inventive, so it will be a more open game i reckon. Just imagine if Sterling starts to take his chances...

Sterling will score only one goal in the tournament France 0-England 1 in the final. He will forever be called Raheem Iniesta.

I have bought into Southgate now. Everything about him as a coach and manager is exactly what I want.

I was down near the Molineux yesterday and walked down a street, looked across and saw the street sign which read Southgate.

Really disappointed. Should have been 2 or 3 up at half time, but no, instead we surrendered the initiative and we could not get it back. For me, once Sterling ran out of steam we had not out-ball up front, and then our hopeless long balls went no where. Really disappointed, we won't get that opportunity again. Well done lads, but bollocks to the final.

I found it painful to watch from a tactical perspective but forget that lets look on the bright side.

England played whole hearted and to a man gave everything they individually could.

They took the nation on a ride and the general public loved it.

Well done to one and all you couldn't have tried harder.

Boys against men at the end of the day. But our boys exceeded expectations and brought a little hope to the nation....for a while.

History will say yes. He cannot achieve more than he has now in the game of football. Wealth means fuck all, a Golden Boot is immortal and cares nothing for the scrutiny of future eyes. He goes into a very exsclusive club.

Not yet. Needs to play abroad and develop his game further there.

Five years ago Harry Kane was playing for Leyton Orient against Walsall, he scored in that game.

That seals it for me - brooks no argument - he MUST be an all-time great.

When they came to give him his award, they realised he'd already fucked off um  At a mere 19 years of age, Mbappe is for me, different gravy.

But if he HADN'T left, how embarrassing if someone today overtook him, and he had to skulk off home on his own? Everyone would have had a great time laughing at his 'presumptuous arrogance at assuming he would win...'. Sometimes you can't do right for doing wrong.

At the end of the day, it is a pretty meaningless trophy. Could go to someone knocked out coming 3rd in league stage, but scored 6 in one game against the weakest side.....

Not sure that penalties won during the game should count in the golden ball anyway.

Still - good luck to the lad. Seems a nice guy.
