Going back thirty to forty years Cheltenham was superb, but is it to big and commercial now?

It's getting that way slowly and surely. Massive queues for the gents toilets, bars and bookies. But that's the way it is and has been for some time now. I was a member there for six years but prefer to watch the Festival at home on tv nowadays.

I am in reykjavic at the moment till next Monday I am going on Tuesday to Cheltenham on the day I consider to be the best day.
Not much time for checking for but looking forward to it. Cheltenham is a victim of its own success now in terms of the customer experience which is why I only go on one day. Every penny is wrung out of you now. I shake my head at the hundreds of folk who never venture outside of their beer tent or table and just get shit faced without seeing a horse?
I think native river is a knocker for the gold cup due to distance and going and at 6/1 non runner no bet is printing money.

I did leopards town in Dublin a few weeks ago and it was just fantastic it was like Cheltenham was 15 years ago.

If you ever get the chance Rozza, you'd love the races at Happy Valley or Sha Tin.

Tens upon tens of thousands of folk who simply love the horses with a passion. Far too many slappers and drunks in the UK, who as you say, are present for anything and everything...... but not the races.

Sad to hear that from you, Rozza but it fits in with what I have said earlier on this thread, it is as you say, a victim of its own success and hype, it has become an ORDEAL rather than a grand day out punting and some great craic. Too many drunken arseholes about than in the past. Like shopping on Xmas Eve.

Right, rants over, back to the hosses:

13-30: Galvin
14-10: Santini
14-50: Killultagh Vic
16-50: Naturelle.

30p each way lucky 15 = £9-00.

14-10: Mister Malarkey 0.50p each way = £1-00.

Good luck Rozza and anyone else having a punt today.

The Tote placepot paid out a near record £91,283.90 to a £1 stake, the second ever highest dividend. A punter in Ireland had £2 on it and received £182,567.80. Well done that man, a once in a lifetime win.

67000 there yesterday, busiest one I have ever been to, god knows what Friday will be like. The rain was an issue as it always is as it drives everyone inside the already crowded infrastructure.
The stewards closed the main best mate entrance and drove the big crowds to queue at just two entry points, fuckin mayhem in driving icy rain.
I heard later that someone had been taken ill by the main entrances and in true elfan safety style they closed them all and staffed it with people who had not got a clue why.

Two things still remain, lots of people got pissed and Ruby Walsh fell off a favourite

Anyroad up. £2 Trixie

2.10 Delta Work
3.30 Altior
4.10 Tiger roll

£2 win 1.30 City Island.

The day was an abject misery of a day from the first race onwards. The injury to Sir Erec after he got re-shod in front of millions of admiring viewers was heart-breaking and reduced the rest of the day to next to worthless in returns, both emotionally and fiscally.

Yes, a very bad start to the Friday's racing with that fatality, horrible to see. My week was the usual crap, £46 staked and just £19 won back, my typical Festival form. Enjoyed it immensely, especially Thursday when even a hard bastard may not have been able to stop the emotional tears flowing. Frodon was magnificent, Paisley Park imperial. Roll on Aintree and the Grand National.

Thursday was a magnificent day for the sport in particular and all sport in general. I started the week with £180, I went Tuesday, bet £50 each of the rest of the days plus beer, and ended up with £240. I lost my trousers on Sir Erec too.
